Color Shifts: Color as Communication

COLOR SHIFTS is a call for entry exploring the role of color in communication across the arts, design, sciences, and humanities. The exhibition invites creative explorations of how color affects perception and communication, including questions about how the materiality of light and color shapes perceptual experiences, re-frames ideas, impacts meaning in data visualization, enhances perspectives in marketing, and affects cultural bias.

Submissions are welcome from all creatives at all levels in all media: artists, scientists, designers, students, faculty, industry professionals, and anyone interested in creatively expressing color through physical and digital materials. Work samples may include up to 3 images, 2 audio files, and 2 video files (minimum 1 total sample required). Entry fee is $30. Submissions must be received by January 20, 2025 at 11:59 p.m. MST. This is a virtual exhibition displayed at the Color Impact 2025 conference at Rochester Institute of Technology and on the website from June 17 to November 30, 2025.

Awards will be given for Best of Show in three categories: Student, Amateur, and Professional. Jurors will evaluate design skills, technical elements, presentation, and expressive, imaginative, conceptual, or innovative content. Entrants must be 18 years of age or older. Invited participants will be asked to submit a two-minute video statement about their work. Images must be in JPG format, not exceeding 5MB, with a minimum of 1920 pixels on the longest side and 300 pixels per inch resolution. File names must follow the format: Artist_first_name_Artist_last_name_Artwork_title_Full/Detail. Audio and video files have a three-minute time limit.
