About This Call
Black Box Gallery invites submissions for Color Burst: Contemporary Photography, a juried group photo show exploring the diversity, complexity, simplicity, and visual impact of contemporary color photography. The exhibition examines how photographers use color to captivate, compose, and stylize their subjects.
Juror Todd Johnson is a conceptual and experimental photographer living and working in Portland, Oregon. He received his MFA in photography from the San Francisco Art Institute and is the founder and director of Black Box Gallery. Johnson's work uses abstract metaphor, social critique, dark humor, and personal narrative.
Submissions must include 1-5 images. Entry fee is $35.00. The deadline is July 8, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Exhibition dates are August 1-20, 2016, with an opening reception on Friday, August 5, 6-8:00 p.m. The juror will select 24 photographs for exhibition at the gallery and an additional 30 photographs for the online gallery annex. All 54 photographs will be included in a catalog available for purchase on Blurb Books.
Black Box Gallery provides free printing, matting, and framing for all exhibitions. Selected photographers must provide high-resolution TIFF or JPEG files. Prints are produced on an Epson Stylus Pro archival inkjet printer on Epson Premium Luster Photo paper in a color-calibrated environment. Exhibition prints will be kept in a flat file after the show for future sale and promotion. Black Box Gallery takes a 50% commission on all sales; 50% goes to the photographer. Artists may request that prints not be for sale and be used for exhibition and promotion only. All rights remain with the photographer and require their prior consent for any sale or printing. The gallery will shred all prints after 5 years of exhibition in the flat files.
