About This Call
The City of Tamarac, Florida is seeking to commission artists or artist teams for two public art projects.
Colony West Wall Mural: A bas relief wall mural for the new Colony West Club House located at 6850 NW 88th Avenue. The mural will be installed on the second floor within the atrium of the banquet space on a wall measuring 30 feet x 10 feet. The project budget is $45,000. Three semi-finalists will each receive a $750 stipend to develop design proposals. The winning artist will receive a $45,000 contract for creation and installation. The artwork should reflect the spirit of Tamarac and its mission as 'The City for Your Life,' representing the city's evolution from a retirement community to a city of families and youth. The mural should be durable, require minimal maintenance, and complement the clubhouse interior. All mediums will be considered, with preference given to bas relief.
WoodSprings Suites Landmark Sculpture: A large-scale artwork for the North side of West Commercial Boulevard at the Sawgrass Expressway approach. The project budget is $150,000. Three semi-finalists will each receive a $1,500 stipend to develop design proposals. The winning artist will receive a $150,000 contract for creation and installation. The artwork should be impactful to passersby on this high-traffic roadway and reflect Tamarac's community spirit and mission. Given South Florida's subtropical climate with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain, the artwork must be durable and resistant to rust and fading, requiring minimal ongoing maintenance.
Both projects are open to professional visual artists or artist teams in the United States with experience implementing work in the public realm with government agencies. The application deadline is Tuesday, October 9, 2018. Selected artists must participate in design development meetings with the Public Art Committee and City Commission, provide professional photos for publication, and handle installation. Artists must carry appropriate insurance and indemnify the City of Tamarac. Questions should be submitted to [email protected] or [email protected] by September 24, 2018.
