About This Call
The City of Tamarac, Florida is seeking to commission an artist or artist team to design artwork for the entry of the Colony West Clubhouse and Fairfield Inn by Marriott master planned project, located at 6850 and 6800 NW 88th Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. The sculpture will be located at an elaborate circular entry adjacent to the front entrance of the newly constructed clubhouse and hotel. A water feature may be considered. The project budget is $75,000 and includes all costs for research, design, materials, permitting, fabrication, installation, photography, insurance, travel, and structural engineering.
The application deadline is Tuesday, April 2, 2019 and is open to all professional visual artists or artist teams in the United States with experience implementing work in the public realm with government agencies. Three semi-finalists will be selected to develop and present design proposals. Each semi-finalist will receive a $1,000 stipend with no travel involved, or $1,500 with travel of more than 500 miles. The winning artist will be awarded a $75,000 contract and will be responsible for creation and installation of the final work.
Selected artists must provide design development and modifications with drawings and/or models, construction documents signed by a Florida engineer, and participate in a minimum of three meetings with the Public Art Committee and/or City Commission. The artwork must represent Tamarac's changing community and its mission as 'The City for Your Life.' Artists must demonstrate artistic merit, appropriateness to the landscape and community, technical feasibility, durability, and minimal maintenance requirements. The Tamarac Public Art Committee will review submissions and recommend the final award to the City Commission for approval.
