About This Call

The City of Tamarac, Florida is seeking to commission an artist for original paintings or bas relief wall artwork for three different walls at the new Colony West Clubhouse, located at 6850 and 6800 NW 88th Avenue, Tamarac, Florida. Three paintings will be selected from three different artists, or the Public Art Committee may select two or three works of art from one artist. The artwork must be tasteful, contemporary, and compatible with the interior of the new Clubhouse. Artwork will be located at: the back wall of the lobby on the ground floor before entering the restaurant; the back wall on the 2nd floor by the elevator; and the upstairs back wall across from the glass wall sculpture.

The project budget is $9,000 total for three wall artworks ($3,000 per artwork), or $3,000 for one wall artwork. The budget includes all costs for the finished artwork to be hung on the wall. Artwork can be a painting or bas relief. The project is open to all professional visual artists or artist teams in Florida with experience implementing work in the public realm with government agencies. Artists must be able to effectively work with City Staff and the Public Art Committee. Artists are not eligible if they are immediate family or business partners of Public Art Committee members, City Staff, or Program Administrators, or if their artwork already exists in the City's public art inventory.

Selection criteria include artistic merit of concept, style and appropriateness to the Clubhouse and community, technical feasibility and the artist's experience with public art projects, safety and maintenance (artwork must be durable and resistant to theft and vandalism), and diversity in style, scale, and media. Selected artists must provide transportation and installation of artwork, obtain approval from the Public Art Committee and City Commission, and provide professional photos of completed work. General Liability Insurance naming the City as an additional insured is required. Application deadline is Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Semi-finalists will be selected by November 16, 2021, and shortlisted artists notified by November 23, 2021. City Commission approval is anticipated in December 2021. Questions should be directed to [email protected] or [email protected].
