About This Call

Longmont's Art in Public Places (AIPP) program, established in 1988, allocates 1% of City Capital Improvement Projects to public art. The program has built a collection of more than 70 permanent public art installations throughout the city and operates additional initiatives including Art on the Move (temporary or loaned artwork) and Shock Art (painted electrical boxes).

This commission seeks an artist or team of artists to create new artwork for Collyer Park, one of three original parks in downtown Longmont's historic Eastside neighborhood. The park features mature trees, historic homes, public tennis courts, a playground, and gazebo/shelter amenities. A carved tree sculpture previously installed in 2006 was removed in 2013 due to deterioration. The active neighborhood community has requested new artwork for the site. Selected artwork will be vetted by the AIPP selection panel and must coordinate with the park's Master Plan (adopted by City Council in 2003) and receive approval from the neighborhood group and Longmont Parks department.

Up to $35,000 is available for design, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, artist insurance, and miscellaneous expenses. The selected artist must obtain Commercial General Liability and automobile liability insurance with limits of no less than $1,000,000 per occurrence within 30 days of notification. This call is open to artists residing within the USA. Artists must maintain a close working relationship with City of Longmont staff, the AIPP Commission, selection panels, and the community, which may include participation in various meetings. Teams may collaborate, submitting up to 10 images total and a resume for each artist. Submission deadline: November 1, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Three finalists will be notified mid-November, with presentations in mid-December and installation planned for late spring/early summer 2019.
