About This Call
The Collier City Artist in Residence Project invites artists to participate in a one-year residency in Collier City, a 488-acre sub-area of Pompano Beach. The selected artist will build relationships and work with community members through Community Engagement Activities, ultimately developing and installing a completed artwork project within Collier City.
The artist will conduct a minimum of ten Community Engagement Activities and three public lectures with residents. These activities—which may include workshops, meetings, charrettes, or other engagement formats—will inform the development of the final artwork concept. The artist shall document the project's development through photography, painting, sculpture, installation, writing, video, or other artistic forms. A temporary community studio will be established in Collier City (location to be determined), with all equipment and materials supplied by the artist. The final artwork proposal must be approved by the Public Art Committee and City Commission and must have a minimum value of $10,000.
The artist will receive $30,000 total compensation, of which a minimum of $10,000 must be allocated to the artwork's value. The remainder covers artist fees and all materials and supplies necessary to complete the program. The artist is responsible for obtaining all necessary permits, ensuring code compliance, and maintaining Commercial General Liability Coverage with a minimum of $500,000, naming the City of Pompano Beach as additionally insured. Work samples should include 3-8 images. The application deadline is January 25, 2017 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Selection will be based on experience with similar projects, experience working in low-income neighborhoods, quality of past artwork, general approach statement, and the Community Engagement Activity Plan.
