College Station Summer Artist in Residence

The Arts Council offers a summer artist residency in College Station, Texas for visual artists. Eligible applicants must be current students enrolled in a visual arts program at a community college or university, or graduates of a visual arts program from a community college, four-year university, or master's program within the past year. Artists must concentrate in one of the following areas: 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, or watercolor. Applicants must be available to live in College Station from mid-May to mid-August 2014, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, and be able to pass a background check.

The residency includes an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment provided rent-free from mid-May through August 15th (artist is responsible for utilities and cable TV), studio time to create a body of work, three mentorship sessions with area artists covering exhibit installation, sales and financial management, and a solo gallery show at the Arts Center's Texas Gallery for three weeks. The artist must live in College Station for the duration of the residency, maintain the apartment, and be the sole occupant (exceptions may be made for spouses or families). No more than 25 percent of the exhibition may be work created prior to the residency. The artist is responsible for installing and tearing down the exhibition. Any pieces sold in the show will be split 70 percent to the artist and 30 percent to The Arts Council. Entry fee is $10.00. Final decisions will be made no later than April 24, 2015.
