College Station Summer 2016 Artist in Residence

The Arts Council of Brazos Valley seeks visual artists for a summer residency in College Station, Texas from mid-May through mid-August 2016. Eligible applicants must be current students or recent graduates (within one year) of visual arts programs at community colleges or universities, concentrating in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, or watercolor.

The residency provides an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment rent-free from mid-May through August 15th, studio access at The Arts Center, and three mentorship sessions with area artists covering exhibition installation, sales and financial management, and continuing education. Selected artists must live in College Station during the residency period, maintain a reliable vehicle and insurance, and pass a background check. Artists are responsible for utilities, cable, internet, apartment upkeep, and a security deposit. The artist may store artwork in the apartment but should not paint there.

During the residency, artists will have access to studio facilities available after hours (6pm-8am) on certain dates and must maintain compliance with studio use policies. Artists must install and present a solo exhibition at the Texas Gallery, with no more than 25 percent of work created prior to the residency. A 70/30 split (artist/Arts Council) applies to any sold pieces. The artist is responsible for hanging and teardown of the exhibition. Application deadline is March 25, 2016.
