About This Call
The Arts Council offers a summer artist residency in College Station, Texas from mid-May through mid-August 2021. The residency is open to current students enrolled in visual arts programs at community colleges or universities, and recent graduates (within the past year) of visual arts programs at community colleges, four-year universities, or master's programs. Applicants must concentrate in one of the following areas: 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, or watercolor. Applicants must be available to live in College Station for the duration of the residency, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, and be able to pass a background check.
The residency provides an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment rent-free from mid-May through mid-August 2021 (artist is responsible for utilities, cable, and internet), access to studio space, a $500 stipend for supplies and living expenses, mentorship sessions with area artists, and a solo exhibition at a local gallery. The artist must live in College Station during the residency period, is responsible for apartment upkeep and a deposit, and may store artwork in the apartment but should not paint there. The artist will organize and coordinate their own studio space if the provided space does not meet their needs. No more than 25 percent of the exhibition may consist of work created prior to the residency. The artist is responsible for installing and deinstalling the exhibition and attending the opening. For pieces sold in the show, the artist receives 70 percent and The Arts Council receives 30 percent (2.5 percent deducted for credit card transactions).
Applicants must submit 3-6 images of their work through the Call for Entry application by March 7, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. MST. The entry fee is $25. Final applicants will be selected for interviews with the selection committee, which may be conducted via phone or webcam. Final decisions will be made no later than mid-April. For questions, contact [email protected].
