About This Call

The Arts Council of Brazos Valley announces its Workspace Residency opportunity, open to current students or recent graduates (within 2 years) of visual arts programs at community colleges or universities. The Workspace Resident will have access to a private studio and community wet room at the Arts Council in College Station, TX, where they will create artwork, display work in the Satterwhite Conference Center, and have their own gallery show at the conclusion of the residency.

Residents receive an $800 stipend in October, plus $250 monthly stipends through July (9 months total), with studio access during Arts Council business hours. The residency includes mentorship sessions with area artists on exhibit installation, sales management, and financial affairs as an independent artist. Eligible applicants must concentrate in one of the following areas: 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, or watercolor. Applicants must be available to spend 30-40 hours per week in the studio from September 1, 2023 to mid/late July 2024, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, pass a background check, and secure their own housing in College Station.

Residents are required to meet regularly with the Program Director, allow studio visits by Arts Council guests, attend opening receptions and ribbon cuttings, make public appearances at Arts Council and community events, and participate in marketing opportunities including interviews and articles. The artist is responsible for studio upkeep and must be the sole occupant. Sales of artwork through Arts Council-organized events or the studio workspace follow a 70/30 split, with 70% to the artist and 30% to the Arts Council. The application fee is $25.00, and applicants must submit 3-6 images of their work. Final applicants will be selected for interviews via phone or webcam, with decisions made by mid/end of July.
