About This Call
The Arts Council offers a summer artist residency in College Station, Texas from mid-May through mid-August 2014. Eligible applicants are current students or recent graduates (within one year) of visual arts programs at community colleges or universities, concentrating in 2-D mixed media, 3-D mixed media, drawing, painting, photography, or watercolor.
The residency provides an unfurnished two-bedroom apartment rent-free (utilities and cable TV are the artist's responsibility), studio access at the Creative Space in the Federal Building in Downtown Bryan, and studio facilities at The Arts Center available after hours. Artists receive three one-hour mentorship sessions with Brazos Valley Art League members covering exhibition installation, sales and financial management, and continuing education. The residency culminates in a three-week solo exhibition at the Texas Gallery in the Arts Center. Artists may sell work in their exhibition with proceeds split 70% artist/30% The Arts Council.
Applicants must be available to live in College Station for the full residency period, have a reliable vehicle and insurance, and pass a background check. Artists are responsible for apartment upkeep and deposit, maintaining studio compliance, and installing and managing their exhibition. No more than 25% of exhibited work may have been created prior to the residency. Work samples should include 4-10 images. Application deadline is March 21, 2014 at 5 p.m. MDT. Final decisions will be made by April 25, 2014. Interviews will be conducted at the Arts Center (2275 Dartmouth St., College Station) or via phone/webcam.
