About This Call
Studio Channel Islands, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded over 20 years ago by artists for artists, is seeking submissions of artwork to be donated for the Collectors Choice 2023 exhibition. A juror will select accepted works from submissions. If you enter more than one piece, each piece may be accepted individually. The accepted pieces will participate in a month-long exhibit closing with the annual Collectors Choice Fundraising Event at The Blackboard Gallery in Camarillo, CA.
Juror Dani Dodge is a visual artist and curator whose work often uses unexpected sculptural materials and surrealist ideas. She has created site-specific installations at numerous museums and institutions including the Coos Art Museum, Lancaster Museum of Art and History, San Diego International Airport, and San Diego Art Institute. Her installation/performance CONFESS at 2015's LA Pride was named one of the outstanding public art projects of the year by Americans for the Arts. She founded Los Angeles Art Opportunities on Facebook, which has over 10,000 members.
Eligibility: Open to all artists ages 18 and up. All media except video, performance, and installation. Work should be no larger than 30" in width and 48" in height with a retail value of at least $300. All submitted works must be original and created by the artist. Artwork previously exhibited at The Blackboard Gallery is permissible. Submit 1-6 images of your work.
Awards: First Place $1,000, Second Place $500, Third Place $250. All selected artwork will be showcased on the website and event page, with each work linked to the artist's website and published in the event program. Accepted artists are invited to a special exhibition launch to meet the Board of Directors, partners, and collectors. Artists may purchase a ticket for $70 to attend the Collectors Choice event on March 25th, 2023 (6-9pm), though this does not include taking home an artwork.
Key Dates: Deadline February 6th, 2023. Notifications February 11th, 2023. Artwork delivery by February 27th, 2023 (1-6pm). Exhibition March 4-24, 2023. Reception March 4th, 2023. Collectors Choice event March 25th, 2023 (6-9pm).
All accepted artwork is a donation to SCIart for the fundraising event. Public tickets are $300; each ticket holder is entered into a live draw with the prize being the chance to select an artwork from the exhibition.
