About This Call
Studio Channel Islands, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is seeking submissions of artwork to be donated for the Collectors Choice 2019 exhibition. A juror will select accepted works to participate in a month-long exhibit at The Blackboard Gallery in Camarillo, CA, closing with the annual Collectors Choice Fundraising Event. Multiple pieces may be submitted, and each may be accepted individually.
Juror Kristine Schomaker is a new media, performance artist, painter, and art historian identified by the LA Times as one of the top 8 curators to watch in 2015. She has curated exhibitions at Launch LA and POST. The exhibition features work by emerging artists as well as nationally exhibited and award-winning artists. This interactive event allows collectors to purchase their favorite pieces directly from the gallery walls.
Awards: First Place receives $1,000 plus a major solo exhibition opportunity in 2020; Second Place receives $500; Third Place receives $250. All accepted artists are invited to the exhibition launch to meet the Board of Directors, partners, and collectors. Selected artwork will be showcased on the organization's website and event page, with each work linked to the artist's website and published in the event program. Accepted artists may purchase a ticket for $70 to attend the Collectors Choice event on March 23rd, 2019 (6-9pm).
Eligibility: Open to artists 18 and up. All media except video, performance, and installation. Work should be no larger than 30" in width and 48" in height with a retail value of at least $300. All submitted works must be original and created by the artist. Artwork previously exhibited at The Blackboard Gallery is permissible. All 2D artwork must be delivered ready to hang with appropriate hardware (no sawtooth hangers). Pedestals will be provided for 3D artwork; mannequins and busts will be provided for wearable art and jewelry. Artwork must be delivered by February 26th, 2019 (10am-6pm). The exhibition runs March 6-23, 2019, with a reception on March 2nd, 2019.
