About This Call

The Collab Student Design Competition invites currently enrolled college and university students to create an object for the physical world that incorporates two or more of the following characteristics: science fiction, nature, technology, transformation, movement, or sustainability.

Submissions must include a graphic presentation (11" x 17" full color, high resolution at 300dpi) with a 3-D image of the design in context and scale (maximum 3 images), and a design statement of no more than 300 words. Work samples should include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 5 images. Judging criteria include evidence of applied research and process, originality and creativity of the concept, and ability to be manufactured.

Winning projects will be announced on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 4:30–6:30pm via Zoom, followed by a feedback session with judges. A selection of winning designs will be displayed at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, published on the Museum website, and featured on the Collab/Philadelphia Museum of Art website and social media platforms. Prizes include: First Prize $800, Second Prize $500, Third Prize $300, and two Honorable Mentions at $200 each. The competition features judges including Phnam Bagley (Partner + Creative Director, NONFICTION, LLC), Leila Cartier (Executive Director, CraftNOW Philadelphia), Philip Fimmano (Director, Trend Union | Studio Edelkoort), Nicole Feller-Johnson (US Client Experience; Embroidery Specialist, Hermes), and Michael Markert (VP of US Sales, Spacestor).
