Coined in the South Biennial 2027

The Young Affiliates of the Mint, in collaboration with The Mint Museum, announce an open call for art submissions from artists in the southern United States for the third installment of "Coined in the South." This juried exhibition runs March 12, 2027 through May 16, 2027, at the Mint Museum Uptown Charlotte. The exhibition showcases thought-provoking works by emerging talents of the South across all aesthetics, themes, and media.

Eligibility: Submitted artwork must have been created within the past two years, be non-perishable, not generate excessive noise pollution, and cause no harm to living beings. Installation, video, and performance artists are strongly encouraged to apply and should include installation and space requirement instructions, along with recordings or documentation of previous performances if available. All chosen artists receive a $350 stipend to help cover shipping and travel expenses.

Prizes: One $10,000 Atrium Health Foundation juror-awarded grand prize, one $5,000 Young Affiliates of the Mint member-awarded prize, and one $1,000 "People's Choice" prize awarded by the public at the conclusion of the show. Entry fee is $40 and covers up to three submissions. Up to three additional pieces can be submitted for an additional $10, with a maximum of six pieces per artist. All artworks must be delivered and ready for installation between February 1, 2027 and February 26, 2027. Artists are responsible for covering shipping expenses.
