About This Call
A Willa Dock Memorial Fund was established to collect donations for artistic grants in Willa's honor. The fund will sponsor a local, emerging artist to paint Willa's Coffee hut. Victoria Gokun initially painted the hut in July 2017, and it was always Willa's vision to have the building repainted periodically. A new artist will paint the hut in summer 2018.
The project encompasses the stucco portion on all four sides and the door of the hut. Repainting the black trim or the lavender-grey roof will be considered if the artist feels it is crucial to their vision. The black and white tiles are fixed and cannot be changed. The artist will be responsible for the actual painting of the hut, with the exception of the roof if included. Both the artist and Willa's Coffee will have rights to all imagery of the painted hut for promotional use. The painting is recognized as temporary, with repainting expected within 10-18 months by another artist. The painting should not include signage for the business.
Entries must be from artists who reside in Los Angeles County, California. The selection committee seeks an emerging young artist looking to broaden their exposure. Proposals must include a verbal description of the art and a drawn or painted image of the proposed work. Submissions require 2-10 images. The grant provides $2,000 upon satisfactory completion of painting, with supplies reimbursed to a maximum of $200. The notification of selected artist is July 30, 2018, with painting completion targeted for September 30, 2018.
