About This Call
The Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission is seeking to install public art at the Third Street entrance of McEuen Park. The renewed and revitalized McEuen Park is being developed into a destination park with compelling and memorable features designed to serve the greatest number of uses for all ages and abilities throughout all seasons. The goal for this piece is to significantly beautify one of the primary entrances of the revitalized park. Located at a busy thoroughfare, the area will receive substantial vehicle and foot traffic as visitors enter and exit the park. There is no theme to this call, allowing for open interpretation and creativity.
The total funding available for the piece is up to $110,000.00, which must include all engineering, lighting, and installation costs. Artists may submit up to five designs. The art must be comprised of low-maintenance materials that are weather resistant and can stand up to prolonged public interaction. Artwork must be original works by the submitting artist and may be a new original piece or an existing work. The art may not be on display in other public art programs within a radius of 200 miles around Coeur d'Alene, and may not contain advertising, religious art, sexual content, negative imagery, or convey political partisanship. Electricity will be available for installation and lighting.
Eligibility is open to all artists, designers, or creative individuals residing in North America. Initial submissions should include one image of the proposal/concept and five images of previous work, along with a resume reflecting experience in submission, selection, and successful installation of public art on a similar scale. Short-listed artists will receive a $300 stipend for preliminary efforts and will prepare final drawings and maquettes. Submissions will be evaluated by a selection committee on artistic quality, context, diversity, structural integrity, feasibility, and the artist's ability to successfully complete the work. The successful artist will be chosen by August 28, 2013, with delivery and installation by June 2014.
