About This Call
The Coeur d'Alene ArtCurrents program seeks sculptures on loan from artists residing in Idaho, Montana, Utah, Wyoming, British Columbia, Washington, and Oregon. Selected pieces will be placed in high-visibility outdoor gallery spaces throughout downtown Coeur d'Alene, Riverstone, and Atlas Waterfront Park for a one-year period from October 2023 through September 2024, with an option to renew for an additional year (October 2024 through September 2025). The program attracts over 250,000 visitors annually through major community events, providing significant exposure and sales opportunities for artists.
Artwork must be a minimum of 36 inches tall, three-dimensional, stand-alone pieces designed for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance. Submissions should center on themes or interpretations of the Northwest and be valued at a maximum of $15,000. Artists should submit two to four digital images taken from front and back viewpoints, installation requirements, and a written statement explaining the piece's inspiration and connection to the Coeur d'Alene community. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend for the first year and an additional $1,000 stipend if the piece is retained for a second year. The City of Coeur d'Alene receives a 25% commission from any sales. Artists are responsible for transporting artwork to and from the installation location.
Submissions are evaluated by a selection committee of local arts professionals, citizens, a city councilmember, and other members designated by the Arts Commission. Selection criteria include artistic quality, context, site compatibility, materials suitability, safety, public appeal, diversity, and feasibility. Selected pieces must be approved by the Arts Commission and City Council before installation. The submission deadline is July 3, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
