About This Call
The Coeur d'Alene "ArtCurrents" program consists of sculptures on loan from artists residing in the Pacific Northwest. Artists submit applications for placement of their sculptures in the Coeur d'Alene downtown area and Riverstone area for a period of one year, with an option to renew for a second year. The two-year period will run from the beginning of October 2021 through the end of September 2023. With over 250,000 people attending major events throughout the year, many potential buyers will be viewing the art.
Artwork must be a minimum of 36" tall or larger and must be designed and fabricated for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance. Selected artists will be paid a stipend of $1,000 for the first year and no less than $600 for the second year. Artists are responsible for transporting artwork to and from its location. Displayed art pieces will be offered for sale with the City of Coeur d'Alene receiving a 25% commission from sales. Pieces purchased and donated back to the city will be relocated to an appropriate permanent location within city limits.
Submissions must include two or more digital images taken from front and back viewpoints, installation requirements, and a written statement explaining the piece and its inspiration. A selection committee consisting of local arts professionals, citizens, a councilmember, and other members will evaluate responses based on artistic quality, context, site compatibility, materials suitability, safety, public safety, environmental impact, media, diversity, feasibility, and duplication. The project is open to all artists residing in Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Oregon. Artist teams from multiple disciplines are eligible. Selection panelists and their immediate family members are not eligible.
