About This Call
The Coeur d'Alene "ArtCurrents" program consists of sculptures on loan from artists residing in the Pacific Northwest. Artists submit applications for placement of their sculptures in the Coeur d'Alene downtown area and Riverstone area for a period of one year. The one-year period runs from the beginning of October through the end of September of the following year. With over 250,000 people attending major events throughout the year, many potential buyers will view the art.
Artwork must be a minimum of 36" tall or larger and must be designed and fabricated for long-term outdoor durability and ease of maintenance, including potential vandalism. Submissions should include two or more digital images taken from front and back viewpoints, and installation requirements. Selected artists will receive a $1,000 stipend after receipt of artwork. Artists are responsible for transporting the artwork to and from its location and for any associated transport costs. Displayed art pieces will be offered for sale with the City of Coeur d'Alene receiving a 25% commission from sales. Temporary plaques with the art piece name and purchase information will be included with each installation.
The project is open to all artists residing in Idaho, Montana, Washington, and Oregon. A selection committee consisting of members of the Arts Commission, a councilmember, a member of the Downtown Association, and other members will evaluate submissions based on artistic quality, context, compatibility with site, materials' suitability and safety, possible contribution to the City's public art collection, public safety, environmental impact, media, diversity, feasibility, and duplication. Selected pieces will be submitted to the Arts Commission for approval. Before artwork can be placed, a contract must be completed and signed. Applications must be received through the CaFÉ website no later than July 1, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Selected artists will be notified July 15, 2019, with Arts Commission approval on July 23, 2019. Art is due September 30, 2019, with onsite installation scheduled during October 2019.
