About This Call
Colorado Area Health Education Centers (COAHEC) with its Medicina y Urban Rural Art Lessons en Salud (MURALS) Project and the CU Center for Bioethics and Humanities are seeking qualified artists to create an outdoor wall mural at the Fulginiti Pavilion for Bioethics and Humanities on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus, located at 13080 E. 19th Ave., Aurora, CO 80045.
The overall theme for this mural is The Plight of Children in Migration. Sub-themes for artistic consideration may include: aspirations for a better life, safety, stability, wellness, family togetherness, educational and housing opportunities; local and national immigration policies, pathways to entry and citizenship, freedom, faith, separation, human rights, and access to healthcare and education; and emotions of children and families in migration such as uncertainty, resilience, physical and psychological stress, exhaustion, frustration, fear, camaraderie, and determination. The artist will create a digitally produced mural that will be printed on vinyl material and adhered to the building façade. The mural dimensions are 7' x 32' on the west side of the Fulginiti Pavilion.
The budget for the artwork design is $5,000.00, with an initial payment of 40% and a final payment of 60% upon satisfactory installation. The selected artist must produce one digital file (.ai or .eps, CMYK color mode, 150dpi at print size). Mural printing and installation will be paid independently by the University of Colorado. The artist will review and provide feedback on proofs and printed vinyl prior to installation. CU will produce a web page dedicated to the mural with information about the artist and a curatorial statement. Submissions must include: artist CV/resume, letter of intent (not to exceed 300 words), 3-6 images of prior work and/or design proposal sketches, and 3 professional references. Open to all professional artists. Contact: Josina Romero O'Connell, MD at [email protected] or 303-724-0540.
