About This Call
Colorado Area Health Education Centers (COAHEC) and Research Complex 1 (RC1) on the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus are seeking qualified public artists to create a mural design for the Research Complex 1 Building located at 12800 East 19th Avenue, Aurora, CO 80045.
COAHEC is funding a series of health-themed murals created by Colorado artists that communicate health messages in culturally resonant ways to Colorado communities. The mural will touch on messages such as recognition of CU researchers and their achievements, collaborative aspects of discovery, and exploration of diversity and inclusion through impacts on individuals, communities, and public health. Sub-topics for artistic consideration may include: Chromosome classification, Liver Transplant, toxic shock syndrome, ARDS, T cell receptor genetics, vaccination discoveries, and cytokine targeting biological therapies. The selected artist will create a digital mural design (9' H x 80' W) that will be printed and installed as a vinyl wrap by a vendor. The artist must have the ability to utilize software to create the design or use traditional methods such as painted designs with high-quality digital photos that can be enlarged without loss of image quality.
The budget for the artwork design is $15,000, with 50% payment upon acceptance and 50% upon installation. The artist will review and provide feedback on proofs and printed vinyl prior to installation. A web page will be dedicated to the mural with information about the artist, a curatorial statement, and a QR code installed adjacent to the mural. The Mural Review Panel will select up to three semifinalists, who will each receive $1,000 to provide a detailed concept rendering. Semifinalists will be interviewed virtually before the finalist is selected. Applicants must currently live in Colorado and be 18 years or older. Application deadline: December 4, 2024. Submit via Café with CV/Resume, Letter of Intent (maximum 500 words), 5-10 images of prior work or design proposal sketches, and 3 professional references.
