About This Call
Coachella is seeking installation proposals for the 2013 festival taking place April 12-14 and April 19-21 on approximately 100 acres of flat grass in Indio, California. The festival is looking for large-scale artistic installations with elements such as immersive environments, large-scale sculpture, fire, water/misting, interactive installations, architectural shade structures, projection mapping, video projects, and performance art—all with night-time lighting. Past installations have included structures as large as an acre and sculptures as tall as 125 feet. The festival does not accept 2D art (paintings or photographs) or work on a human scale that could be lost in a crowd.
Proposals must include: the installation name and detailed description, reference photos/drawings/models or video, dimensions of each piece, a detailed lighting plan, information about any fire installations (type and quantity of fuel), and total cost for fabrication, delivery, setup, and expenses (including artist travel for both weekends). Engineering stamps are required for some installations to ensure they withstand local wind ratings and are safe for large crowds. Coachella will supply heavy equipment for installation, generators, fuel, safety fencing, camping with hot showers, and crew wristbands for both weekends.
Submissions may include up to 10 images, 3 videos, and 13 total work samples. The deadline for all proposals is December 10, 2012 at midnight mountain time. Final selections will be made by mid-January. Contact [email protected] with questions about proposal appropriateness.
