About This Call

The Indianapolis Art Center is calling for entries for a national juried exhibition titled "Clotheshorse" investigating how clothing, accessories, and fashion play a role in identity, commercialism, and social media in today's world. The exhibition welcomes artists in any medium, 18 or older, living in the United States. Work must be made within the last two years and cannot have been previously shown at the Art Center. All work must be original and made by the artist or artist team; collaborative works are eligible. All media are eligible, although work must have a tie-in to clothing, fashion, and/or accessories as a material element or subject matter. Installation artists should contact the Art Center before applying to ensure compatibility of space. 2D artwork must not weigh more than 250 pounds or be bigger than 10' x 10'.

Each artist or artist team may submit up to two pieces of work for jurying. The entry fee is $25 (non-refundable) for the submission of two pieces. Work samples may include 1-2 images, 0-2 audio files, and 0-2 video files (minimum 1 total sample, maximum 2 total samples). Cash awards total $2,500.00: Best in Show - $1,500.00, Best in 2D (includes video) - $500.00, Best in 3D (includes installation) - $500.00. Awards will be announced at the Opening Reception on June 21, 2019 (6-9 p.m.) in a public ceremony. The exhibition runs from June 21 through August 7, 2019. All accepted work must remain on display until the end of the exhibition. The show is juried by Kyle Herrington, Director of Exhibitions and Events at the Indianapolis Art Center.

All artwork must arrive by Thursday, June 13, 2019. The artist is responsible for shipping costs and insurance of the work while in transit. Work must be shipped in a reusable container and return shipping is to be paid by the artist. Hand-delivered work may be dropped off beginning Monday, June 3 through Thursday, June 13, 2019. All work must come ready to install/hang. For multi-media and other installations, artists should be available to assist with installation (June 13-20, 2019). All work may be offered for sale; the Art Center retains a 35% commission on all sales. The Art Center will insure the exhibition while on view and will furnish a certificate of insurance upon request. The artist is responsible for providing an itemized insurance list on the Art Center's form.
