About This Call
Lendlease is commissioning a large-scale sculpture in the round for installation in the northwest corner of the Clippership Wharf Development in East Boston. The sculpture will be installed along the Harborwalk adjacent to Boston Harbor near Clipper Ship Lane, on a site outfitted with public seating and lighting. The project aims to create a landmark sculpture that promotes and reflects the neighborhood while providing an impactful enhancement to the public realm.
The sculpture must be designed to sit at grade atop a pre-existing concrete footing measuring 20 feet in diameter and 1 foot depth, with a weight load capacity between 200 and 500 pounds per square foot. The budget for the project is $123,250, which must cover all costs including artist's fee, travel, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, and insurance. Lighting, footing, sales tax, and art consultation fees are exempt from the budget. The artist will be paid in three equal payments from Sunne Savage Gallery, the art consultant for the project.
Eligibility is open to professional artists and artist groups within New England with experience on projects of comparable budget, scale, and scope. Applicants must submit a resume (4-page maximum), 10-20 images of artwork, 3 recommendations from art professionals, an artist statement and approach to commissioned sculpture (1000-word maximum), and a current certificate of insurance. Three finalists will be selected and awarded a $2,500 stipend to design and present proposals. The selected sculptor will be announced by December 1, 2017, with installation scheduled for September 15, 2018. Questions can be directed to Christina Godfrey at [email protected] or (508) 667-1062.
