About This Call

Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport (LIT) is commissioning an artist or artist team for a site-specific terrazzo floor artwork located in the concourse exit area on the second floor. The floor art is envisioned as a terrazzo piece or pieces totaling between 350 and 750 square feet, set within a surrounding terrazzo field designed by the base building architect. The location is pre-security, between the top of the escalators on the south and the start of the ramp down to the security checkpoint on the north, and between the meeter/greeter lounge on the west and the entry to airport administration/information desk on the east. The project should celebrate the natural beauty of the region and welcome people to Little Rock and Arkansas.

The selected artist will create a custom design for the floor and receive a design fee of $10,000. The Airport will contract separately for fabrication and installation. Up to three finalists will be selected to develop concept proposals; finalists will be paid a $1,200 stipend. To be eligible, artists must currently reside in Arkansas or have lived, worked, or studied in the state. Artists need not have experience working with terrazzo but should express interest in translating their work into this material.

Submissions are due August 23, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. CST via CaFE (www.CallForEntry.org). Required materials include: a statement of interest and approach (no more than 500 words), a brief description of connection to Arkansas (no more than 25 words), CV/resume (PDF, no more than 3 pages), names and contact information for 3-5 professional references (PDF), and up to 10 sample images of previous artwork (JPEG) with corresponding image information including title, description, medium, completion date, dimensions, location, and budget/cost. Questions must be submitted by August 9, 2020 to [email protected].
