About This Call

Bill and Hillary Clinton National Airport in Little Rock is commissioning an artist or artist team to create a site-specific wall artwork for the concourse area. The wall is approximately 36 feet long by 8.5 feet high, located on the east side of the concourse near Gate 5. The selected artist will receive a design fee of $12,500, with an additional budget not to exceed $115,000 allocated for fabrication and installation, paid by the Airport. The Airport may contract for fabrication and installation with an outside contractor or with the selected artist.

The artwork must be made of durable, low-maintenance materials and designed so it can be removed and reinstalled if future airport construction changes the wall. The airport will prepare the wall surface and install appropriate lighting. The artwork should reflect an aspect of Arkansas' celebrated places, destinations, and experiences; welcome people to Little Rock and Arkansas; create a positive first impression; and infuse creativity into this highly visible location.

To be eligible, artists must currently reside in Arkansas or have lived or studied in the state. Up to five finalists will be selected to develop concept proposals and will receive a $1,500 stipend to attend an orientation, develop a site-specific concept proposal with renderings and narrative description, and present to the Art Committee. Submissions are due May 9, 2022. Applicants must submit a statement of interest (no more than 500 words), a brief description of their connection to Arkansas (no more than 25 words), a résumé/CV (no longer than 3 pages), names and contact information for 3-5 professional references, and up to 10 sample images of previously completed projects with corresponding information including title, description, medium, completion date, dimensions, and location.
