Clemson University Outdoor Sculpture RFQ

Atelier InSite, which administers site-specific public art on the Clemson University campus, seeks a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a major exterior public art work to be located within the newly expanded University Athletic Precinct. The total budget for design, fabrication, engineering, and installation is $215,000.00. Artwork must be reflective of the site, taking into account the precinct's overall spatial and aesthetic properties, and should encourage interactivity and/or functionality. Artwork deemed unsafe or fragile is not eligible for consideration.

The artwork should reflect qualities and attributes exploring metaphoric aspects of the human condition, with interpretations of human endeavor to excel mentally and physically. The project must consider the broad scope of individuals that experience the Athletic Precinct and must not interfere with daily operations. The project area includes adjacencies to the Old Seneca River, the main drive leading into the facility, and a round-about area at the entrance. No work may be affixed to the building.

Selection criteria include demonstrated interest and ability to produce site-specific public art, originality and creativity, quality of workmanship, and professionalism corresponding with the project scope and budget. Several finalists will be selected and awarded an honorarium of $2,000 to submit a detailed proposal. Submissions must include 6 images of previous work. Deadline for submittal is Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at midnight MST.
