About This Call
Atelier InSite seeks professionally qualified artists to submit a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for a site-specific interior public artwork for the Lee III facility at Clemson University in Clemson, SC. The project budget is $60,000 for design, fabrication, engineering, and installation. Artists must demonstrate an ability and interest in engaging in site-specific public art practice.
The artwork should be reflective of the qualities and attributes of the research areas in the departments occupying Lee III, which include Art, Architecture, and Landscape Architecture. The work should recognize a wide range of interpretations—literally, abstractly, and otherwise. In the spirit of collaboration, the project must take into consideration the use of the space and the individuals and departments that work in and around the building. The installed artwork must not interfere with daily operations within Lee III or pose any potential harm. One interior area has been identified that can accommodate 2-Dimensional and lightweight 3-Dimensional works that could be installed utilizing the ceiling structure. The site is highly visible and heavily trafficked by students, faculty, and staff.
Selection Timeline: RFQ Deadline February 22, 2016; RFQ Review Early March 2016; RFQ Shortlist Early April 2016; RFP Request Issued May 2, 2016; RFP Submission Deadline September 1, 2016; Contract Issued October 2016; Project Installed March 2017. A stipend of $2,000 will be awarded to each of the top three finalists. Selection criteria include originality (creativity and uniqueness demonstrated in previous projects) and workmanship (quality and craftsmanship exhibited by past work). Work sample requirements: 5-6 images and 0-1 video (6 total samples required).
