About This Call
Atelier InSite, responsible for the administration of site-specific public art on the Clemson University campus, seeks artwork for permanent installation in the newly built Business School. The total budget for design, fabrication, engineering, and installation is $240,000.
The artwork must be reflective of the site, taking into account the precinct's overall spatial and aesthetic properties, and should encourage interactivity and/or functionality. Artwork deemed unsafe and/or fragile is not eligible. The selected work should explore aspects of the human condition specific to the "global marketplace of ideas" for individual and social development, embodying characteristics of outreach and the spirit of education in business communication. The installed artwork must not interfere with daily operations. The artwork can be interior, exterior, or a mixture of both within the College of Business area.
The new Business School is a 170,000 square foot facility with an adjacent 600,000 to 700,000 square foot area in a high traffic location near Bowman Field, Sikes Hall, Douthit Hills, and downtown Clemson. Submissions must include 4-6 images and up to 1 video. Several finalists will be selected and awarded an honorarium of $2,000 to submit a detailed proposal. Selection criteria include demonstrated interest and ability in site-specific public art, originality, workmanship quality, and professionalism. The project timeline includes RFQ review in March 2019, short list selection in May 2019, RFP deadline September 16, 2019, contract issuance in October 2019, and installation in April 2020.
