About This Call
The City of Clearwater Public Art & Design Program is seeking up to three artists to participate in a temporary sculpture exhibition from July 2015 to January 2017. Artwork will be selected to complement the Cleveland Street District streetscape and serve as a visual anchor point and identity for the District.
Eligibility: Open to all professional artists and artist teams aged 18 and older residing in the United States. Professional artists are defined as practicing fine artists generally recognized by critics and peers as professionals of serious intent and ability. Only submissions of existing artwork will be accepted; designs or proposals are not permitted. Artists must submit three images of existing artwork available for temporary loan, a current resume emphasizing public art projects, and a letter of interest describing their interest in the project.
The total budget is $9,000, representing three honoraria of $3,000 for up to three artists. The honorarium covers artist expenses including temporary loan of artwork, transportation to and from the exhibition site, required insurance for artwork transport and exhibition, and artist fees for on-site availability during installation and removal. The City will provide logistical and staff support for installation and removal. Artwork must be durable, require limited to no maintenance, and be capable of sustaining wind speeds with gusts up to 130 mph. Artists are responsible for transportation, assistance with installation and removal, availability for public information interviews, and provision of insurance coverage including General Liability Insurance of no less than $500,000 per occurrence and Automobile Liability Insurance with limits of $500,000. Three display sites are available in medians within the Cleveland Street District with maximum artwork dimensions of 16' L x 20' H x 6' W at ground base. Selection will be based on strength and artistic merit of past works, experience and approach as evidenced in written materials, and ability to complete a project of commensurate scope.
