About This Call
The City of Clearwater Public Art & Design Program and Clearwater Public Library System are seeking examples of public sculpture to be permanently installed in the Clearwater Main Library courtyard. The total budget for this project is $45,000.00 USD and is all inclusive, covering artist expenses such as purchase of artwork, transportation, required insurance, artist fees for on-site availability during installation, and any other costs arising from the project. The City of Clearwater will provide logistical and staff support for installation.
Eligibility is open to all professional artists and artist teams aged 18 and older residing in the United States. Only submissions of existing sculpture may be submitted; designs or proposals are not accepted. Applicants must submit up to three images of existing artwork available for installation, including artist name, artwork title, medium, dimensions, price/value, and year completed. The artwork site measures 25' x 25' with part sunlight exposure and significant foot traffic during library hours. All submitted artwork must be durable and require limited maintenance. Given the Tampa Bay area's hot, humid climate with intense sunlight and frequent rainstorms, materials sensitive to rust and fading should be avoided. Clearwater is susceptible to hurricanes with wind speeds exceeding 130 mph; all artwork must sustain such elevated wind speeds.
Selected artists must provide General Liability Insurance of no less than $500,000 per occurrence, Workers Compensation and Employer's Liability Insurance of no less than $300,000 per occurrence (if applicable), and Automobile Liability Insurance with limits of $500,000 for owned, non-owned, and hired vehicles. Once installed and accepted, artwork will be covered under the City of Clearwater's insurance policies. The selection panel will include a minimum of five voting members: one member of the Clearwater Public Art and Design Board, two artists or arts professionals, one city representative, and one community representative. Selection will be based on artwork available for installation, strength and artistic merit of past works, experience and approach as evidenced in written materials, and ability to complete a project of commensurate scope. The tentative schedule includes selection panel review June 9-19, 2015, notification of selected artist in June 2015, delivery and installation July-August 2015.
