About This Call
Clay Matters is the First Annual National Ceramic Art Competition, open to artists nationally. The judge is Beth Ann Gerstein, Executive Director of the American Museum of Ceramic Art. Awards include First Place: $1500, Second Place: $1000, and Third Place: $500.
Eligibility requirements: All artwork must be original and completed within the last two years. Clay must be the primary medium, open to sculpture or vessels. Artwork cannot have been previously exhibited at Epperson Gallery. All wall works must be ready to hang, and all artwork must be for sale. Accepted artwork that differs significantly from the image in the online submission will be disqualified. The gallery reserves the right to reject works deemed extraordinarily fragile, unstable, unable to be properly installed, potentially dangerous, extremely over-priced, or too heavy or large. No accepted entry may be withdrawn or sold outside the exhibition prior to the closing date. Size limitations: artwork must be able to enter through doors with clearance of 80"h x 84"w, ceilings are 11 feet high, and nothing over 60 lbs will be accepted.
Exhibition dates are March 22 – May 5, 2019, with an opening reception on March 23rd, 2019. Artist notification is February 25th, 2019. Shipping deadline is March 15th, 2019; hand delivery deadline is March 18th, 2019. Unsold work can be picked up May 6th, 2019. The artist is responsible for all shipping and transit costs, including insurance, to and from the gallery. The gallery does not insure artwork in transit. Shipped work will be returned in the container in which it was received. Epperson Gallery handles all sales transactions, and artists receive a 50% commission from all gallery sales. Entry fee is $30 (covers 3 image uploads); additional images are $5 each. Minimum 3 images required, maximum 6 images.
