About This Call
Northern Michigan artists are invited to submit original works of art for the juried exhibition, CLAY in SPACE. Crooked Tree Arts Center-Traverse City is partnering with Traverse City's ClaySpace to present this juried exhibition of contemporary clay and ceramic artwork. CLAY in SPACE aims to showcase the breadth of clay work being created throughout Northern Michigan today. The exhibition will explore outstanding examples of ceramics and encourage visitors to consider the way we engage with clay in our lives, including natural environments, our homes, gallery spaces, and art studios.
Eligibility is open to Michigan artists 18 and over residing in Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, Crawford, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Mason, Otsego, and Wexford Counties, and all counties in the Michigan Upper Peninsula. Both functional and non-functional works are welcome. All clay bodies, ceramic processes, techniques, and mixed media works incorporating clay and ceramics are eligible. Works must have been created and completed within the last three years. 3D wall-hanging works should not exceed 30 inches in any dimension or weigh more than 50 pounds. 3D freestanding works should not exceed 78 inches in any dimension. All work must arrive assembled and stable for safety concerns. Diptychs and triptychs are allowed but must be submitted and priced as one piece.
Entry fee is $25.00 ($20.00 for CTAC members). Artists may submit up to five entries. The exhibition will be on display in Traverse City's Cornwell Gallery from July 12 to August 23, 2024. Notification of acceptance will be sent by Friday, June 7, 2024. Work must be delivered to Crooked Tree Arts Center between June 24-29, 2024. Unsold artwork must be picked up between August 24-30, 2024, or by appointment. Artists are responsible for transporting work to and from the venue. Shipped work must include a return shipping label. Crooked Tree Arts Center will retain a 40% commission on all sales. Works do not have to be for sale. $1,000 in awards will be given. Jurors are Madeline Kaczmarczyk and Jerry Berta.
