About This Call

The Civitan Foundation, Inc. is seeking one professional mural artist to create an outdoor mural for its newly renovated building located at 16th Street and Thomas in Central Phoenix. The mural will be highly visible from the neighborhood and along the busy 16th Street corridor. The artwork should celebrate the unique spirit and identity of the community and its surroundings.

The mural will be approximately 10 feet high by 38 feet on the south side (which includes an exterior door) and possibly one panel approximately 10 feet by 18 feet on the east side facing 16th Street. The mural must be painted on durable panels that can be attached to the exterior wall using anti-graffiti paints and materials. This opportunity is open to professional mural artists living in Maricopa County who have the ability to create large-scale murals and who have engaged communities to gather stories as part of their designs.

The project budget is $8,000, which includes all artist fees for community engagement, mural design, materials, fabrication, installation, insurance, transportation, and project coordination. Civitan Foundation will seek in-kind donations for materials and installation. Up to three artists will be selected for interviews with the Selection Panel. The selected artist will work directly with the community to design and execute the final mural. Estimated timeline: Finalists notified December 2020, Artist Contract January 2021, Community Engagement January–March 2021, Mural installation Late March 2021. Submissions must include a one-paragraph statement of interest (maximum 1000 characters), contact information for three professional references, a resume (no more than 2 pages, 10-point font minimum), and up to five digital images of previously completed artwork (JPEG/JPG format, 1200 pixels or greater on longest side, under 5 MB each). Each image must include title, dimensions, date of completion, estimated budget, and brief description. Questions should be directed to Donna Isaac at [email protected].
