About This Call
The Civic Art Registry (CAR) is a database for emerging, self-taught, and non-institutionally recognized artists to share their portfolios with the Los Angeles County Arts Commission's Civic Art Program. The database is maintained by Civic Art Program staff and serves as a reference for future research, program offerings, and inquiries. CAR is open to the first 350 artists who submit portfolios until March 11, 2020, or until space remains available. This is a non-juried list.
The purpose of CAR is to reach a wider, more diverse range of artists who are new to the Civic Art Program, specifically those who are emerging, self-taught, non-institutionally recognized, and from underserved communities. CAR is intended to help assess resource needs for future professional development offerings; identify artistic trends not eligible for conventional public art calls; enable curatorial research for new art opportunities, including programming; and help create expanded pathways for artists into the public art field.
Artists must be at least 18 years old, live or work in Los Angeles County, and have not yet completed a public artwork. Artists who have previously been accepted to the Civic Art Prequalified List or any similar program are not eligible. Artists of all disciplines are welcome to apply, including visual, performance, and literary-based art practices. Submission materials include a resume (not exceeding three pages), up to ten work examples (images in JPEG format no larger than 1920 x 1920 pixels and 2MB, video clips up to one minute each, or publications), and an annotated image list with title, date, location, brief project description (250 words maximum), medium, dimensions, and commissioning agency or client information if applicable. Verification emails reconfirming residency and/or work in Los Angeles County will be sent periodically to ensure database accuracy.
