About This Call
RCP Companies, The Community Foundation of Greater Huntsville, Redstone Federal Credit Union, the City of Huntsville and Arts Huntsville are seeking Statements of Qualifications from artists interested in creating artwork for three sites in Huntsville: a renovated plaza area in Big Spring Park (approximately 30' by 60'), a plaza area in the interior of RCP Companies' new CityCentre mixed-use development (triangular area approximately 60' by 60'), and a pocket park adjacent to Redstone Federal Credit Union's new branch along Downtown Huntsville's developing greenway system (approximately 0.10 acre). The CityCentre Public Art Project has a total budget and artist award of $530,000 to include design, fabrication and installation of the work. The artwork will be owned by the City of Huntsville.
Professional artists or artistic teams working in any and all media are encouraged to submit proposals. Applicants must submit 12 total work samples (6-12 digital images; up to 6 audio or video files with 2-minute run time each), a current resume/CV, a statement of interest (350 words or less), at least three professional references, and optional support materials. Qualifications are due February 15, 2019 at 11:59 p.m. MST via CaFÉ. Up to four semi-finalist artists or artistic teams will receive $3,000 as an honorarium to create and present a design proposal. Out-of-town artists will be reimbursed for travel to attend the site visit (April 3-5, 2019) and proposal presentation, with lodging provided. The selected artist will be responsible for all project costs including design, engineering, materials, fabrication, transportation, installation, and documentation within the $530,000 budget.
The project goals include serving as a visual link between the three sites and downtown Huntsville's greenway system, creating collaborative spaces for gathering, maintaining strong visual presence day and night, exhibiting an innovative and memorable aesthetic representative of Huntsville, celebrating the community's core values and philanthropy, and providing recognition of major donors. The anticipated timeline includes finalist site visits in April 2019, concept proposal presentations in June 2019, artist award in mid-June 2019, fabrication from July 2019 to July 2020, and installation in August 2020.
