CITY SCENES: PERCEPTIONS OF URBAN LIFE

The MVA Gallery (Modern Visual Arts) invites artists, photographers, and sculptors of all levels to submit original artwork exploring streets and urban scenes. This national call seeks interpretations of city content including buildings, streets, signs, people, objects, machines, technology, space, light, and movement. Artists are encouraged to explore how they narrate their experiences of cities, towns, or suburbs—whether capturing decisive moments, asserting the significance of place, focusing on storytelling, exploring social and economic issues, or revealing normality and joyful moments. The gallery accepts all artistic techniques and styles with no restrictions, including street photography and urban scenes in any medium.

Accepted mediums include painting, watercolor, printmaking, mixed media, digital, pastel, encaustic, sculpture, fiber, drawing, and photography. Entry fee is $35.00 for 3 images, with additional images available for $5.00 each up to 9 maximum. All images must be submitted as JPEG files under 5 MB with a minimum of 1200 pixels on the longest side. Artwork must include title, medium, size, price, and year of completion. Artwork specifications: paintings and mixed media must have stretched wire attached to the back (sawtooth hangers not acceptable); maximum 48 inches framed on longest side and 45 lbs; sculptures maximum 24 inches on any dimension; photographs should be framed in black or white frames with white or off-white mats. Plexiglass is preferred over glass for shipped work.

Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on or about January 21, 2025. Accepted artwork must arrive by March 4, 2025. Exhibition dates are March 7 through April 4, 2025. Awards include an "Art of Distinction" Award featuring a special exhibition, an Annual Grand Prize offering a New York City exhibition opportunity, and an optional Director's Choice Award of $200. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and insurance both to and from the gallery and must provide a prepaid return shipping label. Artwork without an enclosed prepaid return label will be considered abandoned.
