About This Call
The City of Woodland invites regional artists and artist teams to submit qualifications for the Visual Voltage Utility Box Art Competition (R2 - Round Two) in downtown Woodland, California. The City has designated funding for the design and installation of 6 utility boxes and box combos, totaling 13 boxes located primarily on Main Street between Elm and Third Streets in downtown Woodland. Selected artists will create original artwork to be installed on these utility boxes, which are owned and operated by the City of Woodland.
Eligible artists must be 18 years or older and reside within the Sacramento region. Artists must demonstrate successful creative and innovative approaches in comparable projects, with at least 5 years of professional experience as evidenced by exhibition records, critical reviews, honors, and awards. Selected artists will be paid $1,000 per location/box combo. The City will provide primed boxes, paint (AQUACOTE enamel-based), and clear coat (AQUAThane UV Gloss), as well as project insurance coverage. Artists must complete designs by March 30, 2016, and installation is scheduled for October 10, 2015.
Applications must include: standard contact information via callforentry.org, a current resume (1,000 words maximum), a two-page letter of interest describing design concept and approach (including sketches), and four images of past work (teams may submit up to 6 images). Original artwork may be inspired by the character of Yolo County, multi-generational and culturally diverse themes, healthy lifestyles, music, culture, nature, community pride, imagination, or abstract concepts. Artwork that is inherently political, religious, or exclusive of any social stratum will be deemed inappropriate. Application deadline: September 10, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. Artist finalists will be selected by September 24, 2015, with design approval by September 30, 2015.
