About This Call
The City of Wilmington is seeking an artist or team to create and install a high-quality public art sculpture honoring Clifford Brown in Kirkwood Park on the Eastside. The available budget for the sculpture is up to $125,000, inclusive of all artist/designer expenses, insurance, research, design, travel, fabrication, construction, transportation, materials, fees, and installation costs.
Kirkwood Park is located at the intersection of 11th and Church Streets along the Brandywine Creek and serves as a gateway for visitors entering the City from Northeast Blvd. The seven-acre park attracts approximately 48,000 visitors annually and includes park benches, basketball courts, a pavilion, lights, playground equipment, picnic tables, tennis courts, and a flower garden. The park's high visibility will provide significant exposure for the public art.
The selection process is two-phase. Phase I requires submission of portfolios and 2-dimensional sketches of initial ideas. Interested artists must submit their qualifications no later than March 13, 2012. Up to four qualified artists will be selected as semifinalists and invited to submit formal proposals in Phase II. The Selection Committee will meet on March 20, 2012 to review qualifications, and selected artists will be notified in writing by no later than March 30, 2012. Submissions must include a minimum of 3 and maximum of 6 images. Contact: [email protected]
