About This Call

The City of Wichita, through SFS Architecture, is seeking qualified firms or individuals to provide consulting services for the planning and selection of public art for installation at the new Planeview Community Center. The Community Center will be a new construction project to supplement and replace the Colvin Neighborhood Resource Center serving Wichita City Council District 3, located adjacent to Colvin Elementary School in Planeview Park. The facility will provide flexible indoor recreation, meeting, activity and social spaces, with site improvements including parking, pedestrian walks, and stormwater management components.

The selected Public Art Planning Consultant will work collaboratively with the design team and City staff to identify appropriate locations, types, and scopes for multiple public art installations integrated into the overall facility design. The public art objectives include being integrated into the building design, creating interactive opportunities with the public, enhancing placemaking within the city park, considering the unique history of the Planeview community, and reflecting the area community members' identity. Art may be located within or outside the building and must withstand exterior elements.

The total budget allocated is $270,000, with the Public Art Planning Consultant fee at 10% of the budget and the artwork budget at $243,000 including a 10% contingency. The consultant will be responsible for securing and managing between two to five separate artists through a public call via CaFÉ, with artist selection by committee. The anticipated construction start date is Fall 2026, with art installation scheduled for Fall/Winter 2027. This project is funded through the Percent for Art Ordinance and the City of Wichita's Capital Improvement Plan.
