About This Call
The City of Wheat Ridge and the Wheat Ridge Cultural Commission seek qualifications from qualified artists and/or artist teams interested in creating site-specific public artwork for The Green at 38th, a newly re-designed event and festival park located between Upham and High Street in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
The Green at 38th is a two-acre community gathering space that accommodates festivals and events. The site features a central lawn space and stage for outdoor events, a playground, seating and gathering areas, and a promenade for food vendors and pedestrians. The park will serve as an important amenity and gathering area for Wheat Ridge's Main Street, with access to shops, restaurants, galleries and Stevens Elementary School at the north end of the park. Park construction will be complete in summer of 2025.
A total of $60,000 USD is available for site-specific artwork within the project area. These projects are open to all qualified artists, but preference may be given to artists who reside within 250-300 miles of the Denver Metro Area due to budgetary constraints. Emerging artists are encouraged to apply. The Art Selection Committee hopes for artwork that provides multiple moments for exploration and discovery within the park. The artwork should be inclusive and appropriate for all ages, promote discovery and engagement, and foster a sense of community and connection to the site. The budget is inclusive of all costs associated with the public art project including artist design fee, structural engineering, insurance, materials, transportation, installation, and project documentation. Applicants are expected to consider long-term preservation and maintenance of public art. Submission deadline: Monday, January 27th at 5:00 p.m. MST. Work sample requirements: 5-10 images, 0-1 audio file, 0-2 video files.
