About This Call

The City of Sunrise seeks applications for artworks and designs that can be reproduced as vinyl wraps and applied to up to 29 utility boxes throughout Sunrise. This opportunity is open to visual artists, illustrators, designers, and creative individuals working in any medium, as long as the final artwork can be translated and digitally reproduced on a 2-dimensional vinyl wrap. The goal is to enhance Sunrise's public spaces by adding works of art by local artists to utilitarian surfaces in high visibility areas and areas often targeted by vandalism.

Eligibility: Applicants must live in Florida's tri-county area (Broward, Palm Beach, or Miami Dade Counties) and cannot be City of Sunrise employees. Selected artists will be paid $300 for an approved final design and licensing rights to reproduce the design on one or multiple traffic signal boxes. Artwork must be submitted at a minimum resolution of 360 DPI. Designs must be family-friendly, suitable for the public realm, integrate the front, back, sides, and top of the box, and represent the City of Sunrise's identity as a warm and inviting environment that celebrates diverse and culturally rich populations. Designs must be unique to the City and not have been utilized elsewhere. Designs cannot include political or religious content, intellectual property breaches, trademarks, images of illegal activity, advertisements, logos, signage, promotion of any business or product, or involve attachment of objects to boxes.

Artists will submit initial design proposals for review and selection by City staff and final approval by the City Commission. Selected artists may be requested to provide revisions for specific measurements. The final artwork must be submitted as a high-quality digital file to specifications provided by City staff. The City will be responsible for printing and installation. As many as 1 to 29 artists can be selected. The deadline for application submissions is September 9, 2019. Selected artists will be notified by late October or early November 2019.
