About This Call

The City of Sunrise, Florida is seeking to commission an Artist or Artist team interested in loaning existing art sculpture(s) to the City for outdoor exhibition for one year. The call is open to all artists nationwide creating original three-dimensional artwork of a scale and material suitable for outdoor display. Previous experience in outdoor installation of public art is preferred but not necessary. There are thirteen (13) art pads available for the exhibition: up to four (4) at Flamingo Linear Park and up to nine (9) at the new Village Art Plaza. The City is open to all themes and styles as long as sculptures reflect the spirit of the City of Sunrise and do not contain objectionable elements. Sculptures must be impactful to pedestrians and passerby traffic.

Flamingo Linear Park is located in a prominent gateway location to the City's Business and Entertainment District, adjacent to Sawgrass Mills and the Amerant Bank Arena. Sculptures for this location should be larger scale (7 to 12 feet tall) with pads ranging from 8'x8' to 10'x8' and weight capacity up to 90,000lbs. The Village Art Plaza, completed in March 2025, serves as a destination for residents and visitors with regular events including live music, farmer's markets, and art shows. Temporary sculptures for this Plaza should be pedestrian scale (5 to 8 feet tall) with pads ranging from 5'x5' to 10'x8' and weight capacity up to 50,000lbs.

Selected artists will receive a $3,500 honorarium for sculptures between 5 to 8 feet tall and $4,000 for sculptures higher than 8 feet tall, paid in two installments. Artists are responsible for transporting artwork to and from the City's designated location, though the City has a professional installer to assist with installation and de-installation. Sculptures should be durable and require minimal maintenance, suitable for South Florida's sub-tropical climate with intense sun and seasonal heavy rain. The Selection Committee will evaluate submissions based on design aesthetic and concepts (75 points) and technical considerations (25 points).
