About This Call
In partnership with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU), the Office of Arts & Culture is seeking an artist through the pre-qualified roster to design, fabricate, and install a site-specific artwork in Wallingford at a small facility adjacent to the North Transfer Station. The surrounding area is residential to one side and commercial to the other.
The selected artist will work with project architects, SPU, community representatives, and ARTS staff to develop a permanent public artwork for the Wallingford East Shaft Site, which includes a building and landscaped areas. The desired artistic approach should consider the function of the building and how it protects water from sewage contamination. The artwork can be affixed to or part of the building façade or integrated into the landscape, and should be viewable from the street. Artwork features should be durable and require minimal maintenance. The selected artist will meet with community stakeholders, project staff, and consultants during the design phase.
The selected artist will receive a commission of $72,661.22 (plus Washington State Sales/Use Tax of $7,338.78) equaling $80,000.00 to design, fabricate, and install the artwork. Application requirements include a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters) related to water and connection to weather, résumé, three references, and 10 to 16 images. The application deadline is 10:59 p.m. Pacific Daylight Time, Thursday, June 14, 2018. Applicants will be notified of the panel's decision by email by end of July 2018. This call is an invitational to artists prequalified through ARTS' 2017-2020 Public Artist Roster.
