About This Call
The Office of Arts & Culture is seeking artists pre-qualified through their Artist Rosters (Emerging Artist, Ethnic Heritage, and Public Art Boot Camp participants) to develop temporary artworks for the 2015 Seattle Center Activations. Up to seven selected artists will design and develop small-scale temporary artworks to be installed on city-owned street furniture, infrastructure, or building facades (such as light poles, railings, sidewalks, trees, tree pits, and stair risers) for a four-month period from August 24, 2015 through January 3, 2016 on the Seattle Center campus.
Artists should submit a concept proposal (not to exceed 2,000 characters) describing their artwork idea, proposed materials and methods, and potential installation locations. The artworks must be designed to be easily installed and de-installed without causing permanent damage to city property and must not obscure city signage. Potential artwork locations include lamp posts, covered walkways, fences, the Seattle Center Poetry Garden, building facades, and the Skate Park. Selected artists will install their work between August 31 and September 3, 2015.
Each selected artist will receive a $4,000 commission fee, paid in three installments: 40 percent upon acceptance of the final artwork proposal, 40 percent after documented installation, and 20 percent after documented de-installation, photo documentation, and a brief project summary. Application requirements include eight images of past artworks, a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters), a concept proposal (not to exceed 2,000 characters), resume, and references. Applicants will be notified of the selection committee's decision by email in mid-June. Contact Elisheba Johnson at [email protected] or 206.684.0182 for questions.
