About This Call

The Seattle Office of Arts & Culture is creating an artist roster of approximately 160 emerging, mid-career and established artists who will be pre-qualified for future art projects at city utility facilities, parks, street rights-of-way and other locations. The roster will be used to select artists to develop temporary, permanent, free-standing or site-integrated artwork projects in a variety of forms, sizes and complexities, outdoors and indoors, with budgets up to $175,000.

This call is open to professional artists residing in the United States. Artists must be at least 18 years of age and cannot be students. Artist teams may apply but cannot also apply as individual artists. The Office of Arts & Culture encourages diversity in its collection and will consider artistic diversity as a selection factor.

Applications must include a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters), resume (1-2 pages), three references with brief statements about working relationships, up to 12 images (no more than two images of the same artwork, no composite images), and an image identification list (not to exceed 500 characters per image). Selection will be based on strength of past artworks in a variety of expression and media, experience working in private and/or public settings, letter of interest, experience fabricating and installing temporary or permanent artwork, ability to complete projects on time and on budget, and references. A panel of art and design professionals and departmental representatives will review applications in June 2017. Applicants will be notified of results by email by late July 2017. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a commission. Contact Marcia Iwasaki at (206) 233-3946 or [email protected], or Elisheba Johnson at (206) 684-0181 or [email protected].
