About This Call
The Office of Arts & Culture will form a roster of approximately 40 pre-qualified emerging artists for future art projects at city utility facilities, in the parks, in the street right of way and other locations. The roster will be used to select artists to develop temporary and permanent, free-standing or site-integrated artwork projects in a variety of sizes and complexities, with budgets under $45,000.
Eligibility is open to emerging artists living in Oregon and Washington state who are over 18 years old and have created a modest body of artistic work. To be eligible, applicants must show experience with a previous art exhibit, project or event that was open to the public. Students are not eligible. The Office of Arts & Culture defines an emerging artist as one at an early stage in their career who may or may not have specialized training in the art form.
Applications must include a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters), résumé, three references, up to 16 images, and an image identification list (not to exceed 500 characters per image). Selection will be based on strength and artistic merit of past artworks, creativity of approach, letter of interest, experience with public or gallery exhibits, experience or potential for fabricating and installing artwork, ability to complete projects on time and on budget, and references. A panel of art and design professionals and departmental representatives will review applications in January 2014. Applicants will be notified of the panel's decision by email by mid-February 2014. There is no guarantee that artists on this roster will receive a commission.
