About This Call
The Office of Arts & Culture will establish a roster of approximately 75 pre-qualified artists with experience in public art for future art projects at city utility facilities, in parks, in the street right-of-way and other locations. This roster will be used to select artists to develop permanent, free-standing or site-integrated artwork projects in a variety of sizes and complexities, with budgets ranging from $45,000 to $175,000. The roster will be a juried pool of pre-qualified established artists who can create free-standing or integrated, site-specific artwork for locations managed by Seattle City Light, Seattle Public Utilities, Parks and Recreation and other Seattle city departments.
Eligibility is open to professional artists residing in the United States who are at least 18 years of age. Artists must have successfully completed at least two permanent or two temporary commissions with budgets of at least $15,000 per project and have an ability and desire to work collaboratively with other design professionals and project stakeholders. Students are not eligible. The Office of Arts & Culture encourages diversity in its collection and will consider artistic diversity as one factor in the selection process.
Applications must include a letter of interest (not to exceed 2,000 characters), résumé, three references, up to 16 images, and an Image Identification List (not to exceed 500 characters for each image). Artists will be selected on the basis of strength of past artworks in a variety of expression and media, experience working in private or public settings, experience fabricating and installing permanent or temporary artwork, and references. A panel of art and design professionals and departmental representatives will review applications in January 2014. Applicants will be notified of the panel's decision by email mid-February 2014. Inclusion in the roster does not guarantee a commission of artwork.
